BitHub Africa concluded in January 2026. This page is kept as a record of what the organisation did.

BitHub Africa worked on financial and energy access across Africa using blockchain technology. Between 2016 and 2026 it ran more than twenty meetups, seminars and conferences across Africa and the United States.

Through Melanin Academy, its blockchain engineering and internship programme, the organisation focused on building solutions to widen access to financial and energy services, the two ingredients it considered essential to improving social and economic conditions across the continent.

How people contributed

  • By learning, through the Blockchain Essentials and Engineering course
  • By building, as engineers on the Whive Protocol, its community-owned blockchain
  • By backing the work, as investors or partners in Melanin Solar

Those programmes have ended and their application forms are closed.

The Melanin Academy carries the work forward.
